Holiday Happenings in the Upstate

We’re a week into December and the holiday festivities are in full swing! Christmas in the Upstate is always magical. From ice skating and Christmas lights, to gingerbread houses and ballets, we’ve rounded up a few of our favorite Christmas activities that are fun for the whole family!

Ice Skating

Ice skating is a treasured tradition for many people. Especially here in the South, it’s a fun winter activity that helps us envision that “white Christmas” that we don’t typically see. You can visit Ice on Main in Downtown Greenville for picturesque skating under the lights, or you can head over to the Pavilion and experience their state-of-the-art ice system. You can’t go wrong either way!

Festival of Trees

The Festival of Trees, presented by the St. Francis Foundation, is a Greenville staple. In its 37th year, the festival is a free display located at three different hotels. Visitors can enjoy beautifully decorated Christmas trees all done by local organizations, businesses, and schools. The trees can be found at the Courtyard Marriot Downtown, Embassy Suites by Hilton – Riverplace, and Hyatt Regency Greenville.

Upstate Holiday Light Show

With 32 million lights on display, pack up the family in your warm car, bring along some snacks and hot cocoa, and drive through the Upstate Holiday Light Show. Located at the Greenville Pickens Speedway, the show lasts 30 minutes, but you can go around the track as many times as you like! With Christmas lights synchronized to your favorite Christmas songs, this will be a family favorite! Once you’re done enjoying the lights, you can head over to the petting zoo and carnival rides!

Gingerbread Houses

In it’s inaugural year, the Greenville Gingerbread House Exhibit is a must! Located in the lobby of Residence Inn/Springhill Suites, enjoy perusing the display of gingerbread houses created by local chefs and restaurants. The entire lobby is winter-wonderland themed and Oak & Honey has crafted seasonal food and cocktails to enjoy. The Children’s Museum of the Upstate will also be hosting a Special Gingerbread Storytime on December 20th.

Holiday Music & Shows

There are many performances and live music events happening this month! The Peace Center has lots of wonderful shows on the schedule for the next few weeks including The Nutcracker and Greenville Symphony Orchestra’s Holiday at Peace. You will definitely be in the holiday spirit after attending one of these incredible shows!

The magic of Christmas is in the air here in the Upstate. We hope you’ll enjoy some of these special events this season!

Merry Christmas!
