Man seriously burned in forklift explosion

On March 29, it was reported that a South Carolina man suffered serious injuries after a forklift exploded. The incident occurred just after 9 a.m. at the Miracle Hill Thrift Store located on Roe Center Court by Highway 25.

When the authorities arrived at the scene of the accident, they reportedly found a 20-year-old who had sustained serious burns after operating a forklift inside a storage container. He was taken to a nearby burn center for treatment. The man's wife issued a statement the day following the incident saying that he was doing well despite having to undergo numerous surgeries. He was expected to remain in the ICU for up to two weeks and then in the hospital for about 40 days.

A second employee also suffered burns to his hands after helping to put out the subsequent fire. Although he was released after initial treatment, it was stated that he would also need future surgery and treatment. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was reportedly investigating the incident to determine if the employer had violated any OSHA regulations.

If someone gets injured on the job due to an OSHA violation, he or she may be eligible to seek workers' compensation benefits from his or her employer. This money may be used to cover the medical costs associated with the injury and other bills. An employment attorney may assist an individual with filing the initial claim and seeking the maximum amount of benefits that is available. A lawyer may seek temporary disability if the person's injury caused him or her to be hospitalized or he or she will be unable to work for a certain period of time.
