South Carolina trucking accidents and speeding

South Carolina truck drivers have a tremendous responsibility while on the road. The vehicles they are commandeering are larger than most others on the road, and the over-sized trucks are harder to navigate within the limited spaces of most highways. Trucking accidents can occur even under the best of circumstances, as the sheer size and weight make slowing down or stopping to avoid an accident incredibly hard if not impossible.

On Monday, Feb. 13, around 10:30 a.m., an accident involving a tractor trailer blocked traffic on a major highway in South Carolina for hours. An SUV traveling south was using a crossover lane to turn onto the northbound side of the highway. A vehicle following the SUV was slowing down as the SUV slowed to execute the turn. The truck driver realized he was going too fast and went into the median and southbound lanes to avoid hitting the second car. However, he hit the SUV, flipping it on to its roof.

Of the three passengers in the SUV, only two had to be extricated by Fire Rescue and flown to a nearby hospital for treatment. The truck driver required no medical attention. He was charged with going too fast.

Trucking accidents happen more frequently than one may think. Settling with an insurance company may not cover all of the financial hardships the victim may endure. South Carolina residents involved in a trucking accident have the option to seek a knowledgeable attorney to help determine the extent of losses and take an appropriate course of action.
