Fatal Trucking Accidents: Driver struck while helping another

Whenever a big rig strikes a motorist in a car, that person may have little chance of survival. Trucking accidents are typically devastating, particularly in crashes that involve passenger vehicles. Even if the driver and passengers in a car survive the crash, injuries are likely to be catastrophic.

A 19-year-old Greenville teen lost his life in a tragic accident that occurred shortly after midnight on a recent Monday. Sadly, he died while trying to help another motorist. According to an accident report by the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the young man came across another driver who had problems with his pickup truck. The teen pulled onto the interstate's shoulder to allow the pickup truck driver to use his mobile phone to call for assistance.

While he was waiting in his car for the other driver to complete the call, a tractor-trailer smashed into his vehicle. The big rig also struck the pickup truck, but the driver escaped injury because he was not in the vehicle at the time. Sadly, the teenager did not survive the impact of the crash. The tractor-trailer driver was taken to a hospital for treatment of the injuries he suffered.

The surviving family members of the young man can pursue financial relief to help them with the unanticipated end-of-life expenses, lost income and emotional damages. Trucking accidents typically involve business owners who own the trucks, and, along with the drivers, they may be named as defendants when a wrongful death claim is filed in a civil court. However, they may try to blame the plaintiff for a part of the negligence. For this reason, some Greenville families of deceased victims of such accidents choose to secure the services of an experienced wrongful death attorney to navigate the lawsuits for them.
