The dangers associated with aggressive driving

Many South Carolina motorists drive in inappropriate or aggressive ways. In 2009, an American Automobile Association study reviewed data provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and attempted to identify patterns in aggressive driving

. The report found that aggressive driving, though difficult to quantify, was generally identifiable through the presence of behavioral factors. More than half of the fatal accidents taking place between 2003 and 2007 were found to have involved at least one driver who behaved in such a way as to exhibit at least one of those factors.

Some of the factors that the AAA found to be associated with aggressive driving included following too closely or changing lanes unpredictably, moving violations such as driving on a sidewalk or across a median, passing other cars on sections of road where such activity was not allowed, refusing to give the right of way to other cars, failure to use the turn signals appropriately, ignoring safety instructions and other traffic signs, refusal to acknowledge road conditions, driving too fast for the situation and attempting to race with other cars. In a different study that reviewed 2014 statistics, the NHTSA found that speeding or driving too fast for road conditions was the leading human factor in fatal accidents occurring in that year.

When people are injured in motor vehicle accidents caused by these types of drivers, they often face the need for extensive and expensive medical treatment. They may want to have the assistance of a personal injury attorney when seeking compensation from the at-fault motorist for the losses that they have incurred.
