Trying to to improve driver safety

Law enforcement agencies in South Carolina and throughout North America will be on the lookout for those who are driving in an unsafe manner. According to the Large Truck Crash Causation Study conducted by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, 88 percent of all commercial truck crashes are caused by drivers acting in an unsafe manner. Furthermore, 93 percent of all crashes involving passenger vehicles are due to unsafe motoring.

In an effort to both crackdown on and educate drivers about their potentially poor driving behavior, Operation Safe Driver Week will be held from Oct. 16 through Oct. 22. It is being organized by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, and it aims to improve behaviors of both commercial and passenger drivers alike. Unsafe behaviors include driving while distracted, failing to maintain a lane and failing to obey a traffic control signal.

After an accident, an injured victim may be able to file a personal injury lawsuit to win compensation. It may be possible to win a financial award to recoup medical expenses as well as lost wages. Lost future earnings may be possible if an an individual is unable to return to work because of injuries suffered in an accident.

Those who have been hurt in a wreck may wish to consult with an attorney who may be able to review the case and determine if the other driver was negligent in causing it. This may be determined by collecting physical evidence from the scene of the crash or by reviewing statements made by witnesses. A police report may also be used as evidence to verify the victim's version of events.
