Dangerous jobs South Carolina residents partake in

According to the Census of Fatal Occupation Injuries issued by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there were 111 deaths for every 100,000 loggers around the country in 2014. Workers in the logging industry face a variety of workplace hazards such as falling tree branches or unpredictable terrain. In addition, they are often located in rural areas, which may make it harder to get to a hospital after an injury.

On average, 3.4 workers per 100,000 died on the job in 2014, and that number is up from 3.3 per 100,000 in 2013. After logging, fishing was the next dangerous job at 80.9 deaths per 100,000 workers. However, it is important to note that while these may be professions with the highest death rates, they aren't the occupationswith the most deaths per year.

More people die while working as a truck driver or farmer simply because there are more of them. For instance, there were 270 deaths attributable to farmers in 2014 compared to 78 in the logging industry. The 2014 data shows that the five most dangerous professions were unchanged. In addition to logging and fishing, pilots, roofers and refuse collectors were among the most dangerous jobs in America. The death rate per 100,000 in those industries were 64, 47.4 and 35.8 respectively.

Fatal workplace accidents often leave the surviving family members of the decedent in a significant financial hole. In addition to having to pay for a funeral and burial, they have to face the loss of contributions to the household expenses that the decedent had been making. An attorney can help to determine if they are eligible to claim workers' compensation death benefits from their loved one's employer's insurance coverage.
