Workplace injuries higher among sleep apnea sufferers

South Carolina residents who suffer from obstructive sleep apnea may be far more likely to be injured in a workplace accident according to a Canadian study. Sufferers of the sleeping disorder are sometimes awoken several times during the night as their airways collapse and their breathing ceases, and this can lead to elevated fatigue levels at work. Sleep disorder experts say that most of the 22 million Americans who suffer from sleep apnea may not know that they have the condition.

Progress made in reporting serious injuries

Starting in January 2015, employers in South Carolina and around the country became required by the U.S. Department of Labor to report any severe work injury within 24 hours of its occurrence. For the 2015 year, there were a total of 10,388 reports, which translates to about 30 a day. Many of these reports represented instances when an employee underwent an amputation or had to be hospitalized. However, armed with the data contained in those reports, it may be possible to make workplaces safer for all employees.

Preventing crane accidents with inspections

South Carolina construction workers who are required to work on cranes as part of their job may understand just how dangerous this type of equipment can be. In some cases, cranes can swing more than 100 feet above the ground, making a potential fall a serious risk. In order to prevent serious injuries or even deaths, preventing accidents is a must.

Accident caused by Google self-driving car

People in South Carolina have most likely heard about the self-driving cars that Google has developed and has been testing. During the beta phase, the cars have been driven around on streets. Currently, the vehicles have human drivers that are able to take over if they feel it is necessary.
