South Carolina head-on collision leaves 1 dead, 2 injured

Area news outlets report that a two-vehicle accident in Greenwood County at around 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 15 left one person dead at the scene of the accident and two individuals with injuries. Emergency crews cut one of the injured parties from his vehicle, and a medical helicopter transported him to Greenville Memorial Hospital. An ambulance transported the other injured party to Self Regional Medical Center with injuries not considered to be life-threatening in nature.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident occurred on S.C. 225 when a 27-year-old Greenwood man driving a 1990 Chevrolet truck and an individual driving a 2005 Chevrolet truck collided head-on. Authorities have not yet determined which truck actually crossed the center line and caused the accident, and an investigation is still ongoing.

After a fatal auto accident occurs, the family of the deceased victim might be faced with a variety of unexpected bills as a result of the accident. If the deceased victim is found to be an innocent party in the accident, then it is possible that their surviving family may be able to bring a wrongful death claim against any at-fault parties. This may address such expenses as the cost of a funeral, medical expenses and vehicle repair or replacement.

When a death results from any auto accident, an at-fault party may be identified through a comprehensive police investigation that includes an accident reconstruction and witness testimony. A driver may be found responsible for the accident if it can be proven that he or she was operating the vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, failed to maintain proper lane or was driving at a dangerous rate of speed. An attorney may advise a family on their best strategy.
