Marion truck crash causes injuries

The 2.8 million truck drivers in this county are susceptible to accidents and health problems from their occupation. The U.S. National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health has reported that U.S. truck drivers were seven times more likely to die on the job and 25 times more likely to suffer an occupational injury or illness than the average worker in 2004.

Bill increases mandatory SC uninsured motorist insurance

A South Carolina Senate bill, if enacted, would increase the mandatory minimum coverage for uninsured motorist insurance from $10,000 to $25,000. Uninsured insurance coverage would equal the liability policy minimum that motorists are required to have to pay other drivers for car accidents under this proposal.

South Carolina texting bill faces rough road

Text messaging while driving is distracting and dangerous. Drivers who use hand-held devices are four times more likely to be injured in a car accident according to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration. The NHTSA also reports that texting distracts a driver from the road for an average of 4.6 seconds which is equivalent to driving the length of a football at 55 miles-per-hour while blind.

Sheriff charges driver with felony drunk driving for Ladson crash

Drunk driving is a menace to road safety. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that alcohol impaired adults drove almost 112 million times in this country in 2010. One American died every 51 minutes in a drunk driving crash that year, which resulted in 10,000 fatalities, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
