Fatal car crash under investigation in Marian County

Americans are involved in an auto accident every 10 seconds, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Association. A driver who does not exercise reasonable care in the exercise of a vehicle can trigger fatal consequences.

A pickup truck struck a passenger vehicle turning onto a highway in Marian County. The accident victim was the passenger car's driver who died in the car crash. The pickup truck driver was treated for minor injuries and a passenger in the truck was unharmed. This accident is under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Car crashes are often caused by negligent drivers who do not exercise reasonable care. The careless drivers may fail to obey traffic signs, not use signals or drive erratically in bad weather. A driver impaired by drugs or alcohol can also be particularly lethal. Vehicle defects, poorly maintained roads, defective traffic signs or devices may also contribute to a car crash.

Accident victims and their families may be entitled to financial compensation if other drivers do not exercise their duty of care of driving safely. Another party may be liable for compensation if it is responsible for a defective road, traffic device or for a flawed vehicle. A civil lawsuit may help an injured person receive compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering, therapy, rehabilitation, medical equipment, disability, property, accommodations and lost wages. Families may also be entitled to compensation for the loss of a loved one.

These accidents should be investigated immediately to obtain evidence and determine liability by other drivers or manufacturers. A statute of limitations may limit the time for filing a lawsuit in many circumstances. Legal consultation should be considered promptly so crash victims and their families have the chance to seek their right to compensation.
