South Carolina man allegedly involved in deadly DUI crash

One man has been killed and two others injured by a drunk driver in a tragic drunk driving accident which occurred outside of Newberry. One driver, who was under the influence, has been charged with DUI and more charges are expected.

The incident occurred on SC 34 at about 9:50 pm on August 17 when a pickup truck, driven by the individual under the influence, slowed to take a left hand turn. This is when a jeep, traveling behind the pickup truck, was unable to stop and collided with the left side of the truck. The driver of the jeep could not slow down in time to avoid a collision.

Both the driver and the passenger in the jeep were ejected from the vehicle. They were transported to a local hospital to receive medical treatment. While their conditions have not been released, serious injuries can often occur in this type of accident, particularly when persons are ejected from a vehicle. The man who was killed during this accident was not ejected from the vehicle, but was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision..

According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) calculations, impaired driving accounted for 10,228 deaths in 2010 alone. This accounted for nearly 31% of all traffic related deaths for that year. What is obvious from these statistics is that impaired drivers constitute a danger on the roadways, and accidents stemming from their negligent behavior can often lead to accidents that result in the death or injury or others.

Those who are injured, or the families of those who are killed, can and often do seek compensation from the parties who caused their losses. This type of compensation can come in the form of financial payments to cover the cost of any medical treatments, loss of wages, pain and suffering or funeral expenses.
