Dump truck kills South Carolina man in wheelchair

A fatal truck accident took place recently when a dump truck driver allegedly failed to make a proper stop at a red light and collided with a 66-year-old man in an automated wheelchair who was crossing the street in Columbia's restaurant and bar district.

The truck accident victim was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after arrival. The dump truck driver turned himself into police and has been charged with reckless homicide.

Truck accident victims can seek compensation for their injuries if they can prove that the driver of the truck was negligent. In this case, the driver of the truck was driving a commercial dump truck. Therefore, he may have been working when the accident occurred. This fact leads to questions about whether the truck driver or a trucking business, or both, could be held liable for the fatal accident.

Truck accidents can be complex and difficult to navigate due to the multitude of parties that may share liability for the accident. It is essential that anyone who is the victim of a truck accident be fully informed of their rights under the law. There are strict timelines for filing personal injury claims to which parties must adhere. That is why it is important to seek advice as quickly as possible after suffering injuries in a truck-related accident.

Pedestrians, and especially those in wheelchairs, are vulnerable to becoming the victims of a truck accident. Unfortunately, catastrophic and fatal injuries often result from such accidents. It remains to be seen what kind of civil action might be taken against the driver of the dump truck.
