South Carolina trooper injured in car accident

When an employee is injured on the job, they may be entitled to receive workers' compensation benefits. If negligence is found at the hands of another party, the victim may choose to seek compensation in civil court against the negligent party in order to cover expenses that stem from the accident. A recent car accident between a South Carolina state trooper and a pickup truck driver left both parties injured.

The accident reportedly happened on Nov. 29, just after 1 a.m. According to authorities, the officer was driving down a street in the city of Anderson when the 29-year-old driver of a pickup truck turned into the path of the officer's vehicle. The collision totaled the trooper's vehicle, according to news reports. The pickup truck driver was sent to an area hospital to be treated for his injuries, although he was released shortly after and taken to the Anderson County Detention Center. According to a news report, the man faces DUI charges.

The officer, whose name has not been released, reportedly suffered a wrist injury from the collision. Although a wrist injury may seem minor, it can often be a debilitating injury, especially in the officer's line of work. Until the trooper is fully healed from the injury, he or she may be out of work and have to deal with ongoing medical expenses in order to rehabilitate properly. When a person is injured in an accident due to the negligent behavior of another, they may choose to seek compensation to cover these kinds of costs, as well as lost wages and damages for pain and suffering.
