Fatal Greenville County car crash caused by running a red light

Running a red light can cause a car accident that costs you your life or the lives of others. A Greenville County family is mourning the death of a 47-year-old wife and mother of two; a 15-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter. On September 30, she left her house just before 1:30 p.m. to run some errands. A few minutes later, she was fighting for her survival from a car crash, a fight that was lost at Greenville Memorial Hospital a few hours later.

Driving a 2000 Ford, the woman was turning left onto US 76 from Milwee Creek Road when her vehicle was struck by a 2008 Jeep Sport utility. Driven by a 31-year-old Anderson woman, the Jeep was said to have been traveling west on US 76. Witnesses say the Jeep had just run a red light when it crashed into the Ford. The car accident remains under investigation, though a witness driving behind the victim's vehicle saw the Jeep run the light, a fact apparently confirmed by the coroner.

The victim was airlifted to Greenville Memorial. She suffered blunt force trauma from the impact. She died during surgery about 4:15 p.m.

The family is understandably grief-stricken, but they will just as understandably want answers. South Carolina law specifically provides for monetary damages to be awarded in the event of a wrongful death. A Greenville County attorney devoted to helping victims and their families hold negligent parties accountable for their wrongdoing may provide answers to important questions and help send a message that running red lights can have severe consequences.
